    HPC systems description

    UPMC hosts MeSU, a HPE-SGI supercomputer based on Intel SandyBridge processors, a Linux SuSe Operating system and an Infiniband connection. Here are the specific technical characteristics of the two main components of the system:

    1. MeSU-alpha: HPE-SGI UV 2000 (installed 02/2014)

    • 2 compute racks 42U dedicated to calculations with a total of 1,024 Intel SandyBridge cores with a frequency of 2.6 GHz and 1 service rack. The compute racks are composed of:
      • 8 individual rack units, 64 blades IP109;
      • 128 Intel Xeon E5-4650L 2.6Ghz (8-cores), 1,024 cores;
      • 128 Gb memory / processor, 16 Tb
      • 2 x 6 Gb SAS dual port controllers;
      • 2 disks SAS 600Go 10,000 rpm;
    • 1 service rack composed of:
      • a system management node (server 1U SGI C1104-RP7) composed of 2 Intel Xeon E5-2609 (4-cores) 2.4 GHz, 32 Gb memory and 2 disks SAS 1Tb;
      • 2 service nodes (servers 2U SGI C2108-RP2) composed of 2 Intel Xeon E5-2670 (8-cores) 2.6 GHz, 128 Gb memory and 2 disks SAS 300 Gb 15000 rpm;
      • 1 storage rack 4U IS5500 (Infinite Storage 5500) composed of 2 RAID controllers and 60 disks of 2 Tb 7,200 rpm;
      • 1 network switch Gigabit 1U 24 ports, Edge-core ES-4526G;
    • 16 TB of shared memory;
    • peak performance of 19 Tflops, and peak power consumption of 36 kW.

    2. MeSU-beta: HPE-SGI ICE-XA (installed end 12/2015)

    • 1 rack leader node + 1 admin node 1U C1104-GP2, hosting the images for the compute nodes;
      • bi-processor Intel Xeon E5-2603v3 1.6 GHz, (6-cores);
      • QPI 6.4 GT/sec.;
      • 15 Mb cache L3, 64 Gb memory DDR4 RDIMMs ECC 2133 MHz;
      • 2 disks SATA 1 Tb 7,200 rpm;
    • 1 login node 1U C1104 GP2;
      • processor Intel Xeon E5-2620v3 2.4 GHz (12-cores);
      • QPI 8 GT/sec.;
      • 15 Mb cache L3, 128 Gb memory DDR4 RDIMMs ECC 2133 MHz;
      • 2 disks 300 Gb 10,000 rpm RAID 1;
    • 2 compute racks containing 21 blades IP125, 84 compute nodes; each compute node is composed of:
      • 2 Intel Xeon E5-2670v3 2.3 GHz (12-cores);
      • 128 Gb memory DDR4 2133, 5.33 Gb/core;
      • 1 InfiniBand FDR switch;
    • 1 cooling distribution unit (CDU)
      capable of cooling 305 kW (1040.6 BTU/H).
